Stacey:Should I have been medically examined to see if I could safely drive a motor vehicle? I don't think so. When my disabilities get to the point where my doctor feels I can no longer safely operate a motor vehicle he will tell me that it is time to give up my driver's license; until then I will continue to carry my license whether or not I drive.
No you shouldn't have. But you did not admit to taking viciden. You were not speaking in a slurred vioce. So in your case there were no reasons to think that you had been under the influence. So, he no reason to give you a field sobriety test.
Althougth, driving 97 in a 55 zone is driving to endanger. In my opinion.

I have to agree with Tridog here. It sounds like the officer followed procedure here. He had no choice but to make sure this man was not lying to him and was safe to drive. Anyone can make up a story like that and hope to get away with it. And he was speeding. Just because we are disabled, does not give us the automatic right to expect special treatment. People get angered by these cop shows, like COPS, where the police look overly aggressive in assuring their own safety. I tend to side with the cop. They are just protecting themselves from getting shot. Dumping the guy in the wheelchair though was ridiculous.
I've often wondered if it's legal for me to drive with my left foot. I hope I find out the answer to this question, before I get stopped!
Maybe our state governments should hand out "disability exemption" cards. Although I can see a myriad of problems with that too, forgeries and such. No easy answer here.
